Here's what we normally do you contact us about a threat of violence.

	By working with your management to strategize methods for peacefully defusing the situation - while also taking the necessary employment actions.
	By helping you restore employee morale - and reestablishing their feelings of safety.
	By documenting the incident in a jury-friendly manner - ensuring the effectiveness and defensibility of your response.
	By coordinating your team's response - using our proven methodologies.

First, we gather as much information as possible. Our consultant will ask you about the incident that prompted your call and about the potentially violent individual (e.g., past employee history, any mental health problems, addictions, access to weapons, etc.). We want to know what security and notification systems you currently have in place, and will ask for other relevant information.

We may need additional information - possibly from other members of your organization. Then we'll assess your situation and discuss options for immediate action. These can include mental health intervention (through your own resources such as EAP, other management-approved resources, or if you request, a referral), documentation, security, notification, and other actions to keep your employees safe.

If needed, we will contact the threatening individual on your behalf and work to defuse the situation - seeking a peaceful agreement with all parties involved. Since we openly represent your company, typical confidentiality does not apply. We will continue to follow up until your management team agrees that the case can be safely closed.

Our final step is to disengage appropriately and finalize all documentation. To protect your company from liability risks, we thoroughly document all actions as well as the intentions of those actions. Top-level management at CMI reviews the documentation to ensure that correct action has been taken and the notes are complete. We also recommend a management debriefing session to discuss lessons learned. Where threats of violence are concerned, we encourage clients to keep internal records while we also keep our own separate records of activities. This arms clients with a ready defense if litigation ensues.
